Spring is here

Spring is definitely here with glorious sunny days and such warmth. I just had to take a photo of the wisteria growing over the pergola in in the backyard. I think this is its best flowering in the 10 years we have lived here. When I walk out the door the gorgeous perfume almost makes me swoon (gosh, what a lovely old-fashioned word swoon is).

Shame about the washing on the clothes line!

Another busy week ahead.

I had an exhausting but very enjoyable weekend with the exhibition, Epiphanies - Revelations Through Art and Beautiful Things, running from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, plus the Laurelbank Market on the Saturday.

And now there is another busy weekend coming up. I rarely attend more than one event per weekend but I'm thrilled to have been invited to bring my glass beads and jewellery to the Lorien Novalis Spring Fair this Saturday 25th August from 10am - 4pm. The Lorien Novalis school is in a lovely location, nestled into a five hectare site of bush and orchard, surrounded by gardens, bees and birds, in the Hills District north west of Sydney. There will be performances, fine food, plus lots of activities for children in the beautiful spring grounds.

I will also be at The Artisans Fair at the Castle Hill Showgrounds on Sunday 26 August from 9am - 3pm.

A busy time ahead

I have a very busy two months ahead and have been working hard making beads and jewellery.

I'm very pleased that my work is included in an art exhibition this month. " Epiphanies - Revelation through art and beautiful things" will be held at the Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Victoria Road, Ryde, 17 - 19 August. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics and more

A new market has started at Willoughby on the 3rd Saturday of the month. It is held at Laurelbank, a beautiful historic cottage, and aims to raise funds for the preservation and upkeep of the cottage. My stall is located inside the cottage which is very fortunate for me as the weather has been cold and wet for the first few markets.

I still have a market stall the first Sunday of the month at St Ives Showground. The Heritage Craft Fair has been rebranded as The Handmade Markets, St Ives & Heritage Craft Fair.

I am also at The Artisans Fair, Castle Hill Showground on the 3rd Sunday of the month. However, due to previous bookings at the showgrounds the Artisans Fair is on Sunday the 26th August this month and in September it is on Sunday the 23rd.

I will be at five markets in September. As well as the regular three markets mentioned above, I will be at the inaugural Dreamers Markets at the Riverside Theatres Courtyard, Parramatta on 1st September and at the Lorien Markets, Lorien Novalis School, Dural on the 8th September.

I would love to see some Sydney people come along to these events.

I'm so excited about Dreamers Markets, a new 100% Australian handmade market. The first market will be held on 1st September at the Riverside Theatres Courtyard, Parramatta.

I am delighted to to be the featured artist on the Dreamers Markets blog today so please have a look at:

Some new work and new direction

I am a collector of antique and vintage buttons but only specific types of button. Sometimes it's necessary to buy a "lot" of buttons at auction to get a particular button.
My dilemma - what to do with the lovely buttons that don't belong with my collection?
The answer - make jewellery with them.

Here are two examples of what I have been doing with these buttons  - a new collection called "Recollections":

And, of course, my first love - flameworked beads -2 new necklaces and a bracelet:

Welcome Pierre

Meet Pierre -  a new addition to our household. Pierre is a 5-year old Eclectus who is very beautiful, intelligent and tame. He's a very happy bird and hardly stops talking. We hope Pierre will be a companion for Chloe. We are introducing them slowly but so far Chloe is not showing any interest in him!!! He only arrived an hour ago so we aren't surprised as she is quite reserved with newcomers and takes her time getting to know anyone.

Pierre's former family was very sad to see him go and ensured that he went to a good home. Unfortunately, they need to downsize to an apartment and the body corporate does not allow parrots.

Some recent work

I have spent time today taking photos of some recent work. I usually forget to do this and when a piece is sold I regret not having a photo of it. So, before tomorrow's event, I made sure I took a few photos. Here is a small sample:

We love Jennifer Findlay's work, it's amazing! Have a look at some of her beautiful pieces on Markets Central today!

There's something wonderful to be said about glasswork and the artistic properties that it gets used for. Such wonderful creations can be fashioned, and the fact that it's such a delicate material and a painstaking process makes the value of its construction all the more priceless.

One of our wonderful stall holders, Jennifer Findlay Glass Art, is a brilliantly talented jeweller and specialises in handmade glass creations, her work is masterful and unique and completely unreal, you simply MUST check out her amazing work!

Completely handmade and unique in design, Jennifer Findlay uses one of a kind glass made beads in order to create her unique products. Her work is definitely down the alley of someone who wants something different and away from the norm but stylish. Definitely make sure you check out Jennifer Findlay Glass Art on Markets Central.
